Grey, Carrie, and I went to a fun company picnic for Drawing the Circle Productions last night. It was tame compared to some parties of Mark's, but still loads of fun. I think he appreciates throwing a bash every once in a while that doesn't end in two hours of cleanup. One lovely couple I know brought the most amazing cake, and promised me the recipe. I promised my firstborn in return.

S'mores made over a cauldron fire simply rock, and so does the rest of any Drawing The Circle party.

In other news, my lovely girlfriend is coming to NYC soon, in time for the Dalai Lama's visit.

Let's see, how shall I put this...

WOO!!!

It's not for a few weeks, so here's an early heads-up... September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

In other news, my friends and I finally saw "Freddy vs Jason" together last night. It's quite a movie if you're either a Freddy or Jason fan, although the uninitiated will probably be lost. It's a solid movie with some great action sequences, and plenty of gore. It even manages to poke a decent amount of fun at itself, its predecessors and the horror genre, without turning into a piece of crap like the "Scream" flicks. And I must confess, I was in total fanboy mode as soon as the opening logo, which was punctuated by the classic "Nightmare on Elm Street" piano keys, echoed by the "Friday the 13th" ch-ch-ch-ch sound effect.

While I'm in a reviewing mood, Violent J's "Wizard of the Hood" EP has been out for around a month. It's the story of the Wizard of Oz, mutated into a story of a Detroit crack dealer (Violent J) who gets whisked away to Oz. There he meets the Scarecrow (Monoxide Child,) the Tin Man (Jamie Madrox,) the Lion (Blaze,) and the Wizard (Shaggy 2 Dope.) Anybody Killa also has a cameo.

Although this is obviously a "smokers' record" and the only pot I have any use for is kitchenware, I find it a really fun listen anyhow. The bonus tracks are fun as well. I only wish the EP didn't cost as much as an album. Of course, that's not a concern if you steal it.

Speaking of ICP, I'm currently reading (among a few other books) Violent J's autobiography "ICP: Behind the Paint."

"Numb"
by U2

Don't move
Don't talk outta time
Don't think
Don't worry
Everything's just fine
Just fine
Don't grab
Don't clutch
Don't hope for too much
Don't breathe
Don't achieve
Or grieve without leave
Don't check
Just balance on the fence
Don't answer
Don't ask
Don't try and make sense
Don't whisper
Don't talk
Don't run if you can walk
Don't cheat, compete
Don't miss the one beat
Don't travel by train
Don't eat
Don't spill
Don't piss in the drain
Don't make a will
Don't fill out any form
Don't compensate
Don't cower
Don't crawl
Don't come around late
Don't hover at the gate
Don't take it on board
Don't fall on your sword
Just play another chord
If you feel you're getting bored
I feel numb
I feel numb
Too much is not enough
Yeah

Don't change your brand
Don't listen to the band
Don't ape
Don't gape
Don't change your shape
Have another grape
Gimme what you got
Gimme what I don't get
Gimme some more
Too much is not enough
I feel numb

Gimme s'more
A piece of me, baby

I feel numb
Don't plead
Don't bridle
Don't shackle
Don't grind
Don't curve
Don't swerve
Lie, die, serve
I feel numb
Don't theorize
Realize, polarize
Chance, dance,
Dismiss, apologize
I feel numb
I feel numb

Don't spy
Don't lie
Don't try
Imply
Detain
Explain
Start again
I feel numb
I feel numb

Don't triumph
Don't coax
Don't cling
Don't hoax
Don't freak
Peak
Don't leak
Don't speak
I feel numb
I feel numb

Don't project
Don't connect
Protect
Don't expect
Suggest
I feel numb
Don't project
Don't connect
Protect
Don't expect
Suggest
I feel numb
Don't struggle
Don't jerk
Don't collar
Don't work
Don't wish
Don't fish
Don't teach
Don't reach
I feel numb
I feel numb

Don't borrow
Don't break
Don't fence
Don't steal
Don't pass
Don't press
Don't pry
Don't heal
I feel numb
I feel numb

Don't touch
Don't dive
Don't suffer
Don't rhyme
Don't fantasize
Don't rise
Don't die
I feel numb
Don't project
Don't connect
Protect
Don't expect
Suggest
I feel numb
Don't project
Don't connect
Protect
Don't expect
Suggest
I feel numb

"Mediate"
by INXS

Hallucinate
Desegregate
Mediate
Alleviate
Try not to hate
Love your mate
Don't suffocate on your own hate
Designate your lover's fate
A one world state as human freight
The number eight
A white/black state
A gentle trait
The broken crate
A heavy weight
Or just too late
Like pretty Kate has sex ornate
Now devastate
Appreciate
Depreciate
Fabricate
Emulate
A truth dilate
Special date
The animal we ate
Guilt debate
The edge serrate
A better rate
The youth irate
Deliberate
Fascinate
Deviate
Reinstate
Liberate
To moderate
Recreate
Or detonate
Annihilate
Atomic fate
Mediate
Clear the slate
Activate
Now radiate
A perfect state
A food on plate
Gravitate
The Earth's own weight
Designate your lover's fate
At ninety-eight we all rotate
Hallucinate
Desegregate
Mediate
Alleviate
Try not to hate
Love your mate
Don't suffocate on your own hate
Designate your lover's fate
A one world state as human freight
The number eight
A white/black state
A gentle trait
The broken crate
A heavy weight
Or just too late
Like pretty Kate has sex ornate
Now devastate
Appreciate
Depreciate
Fabricate
Emulate
The truth dilate
The special date
The animals we ate
Guilt debate
The edge serrate
A better rate
A youth irate
Deliberate
Fascinate
Deviate
And reinstate
Liberate
To liberate
Liberate
Liberate

My favorite U2 song, and my favorite INXS song. One tells you what not to do, and the other tells you what to do instead. Musical symbiosis!

Does anyone else think these two need to be thrown in a "vs" mix together? I hope someone more talented than I gets around to it soon.
