It's not for a few weeks, so here's an early heads-up... September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
In other news, my friends and I finally saw "Freddy vs Jason" together last night. It's quite a movie if you're either a Freddy or Jason fan, although the uninitiated will probably be lost. It's a solid movie with some great action sequences, and plenty of gore. It even manages to poke a decent amount of fun at itself, its predecessors and the horror genre, without turning into a piece of crap like the "Scream" flicks. And I must confess, I was in total fanboy mode as soon as the opening logo, which was punctuated by the classic "Nightmare on Elm Street" piano keys, echoed by the "Friday the 13th" ch-ch-ch-ch sound effect.
While I'm in a reviewing mood, Violent J's "Wizard of the Hood" EP has been out for around a month. It's the story of the Wizard of Oz, mutated into a story of a Detroit crack dealer (Violent J) who gets whisked away to Oz. There he meets the Scarecrow (Monoxide Child,) the Tin Man (Jamie Madrox,) the Lion (Blaze,) and the Wizard (Shaggy 2 Dope.) Anybody Killa also has a cameo.
Although this is obviously a "smokers' record" and the only pot I have any use for is kitchenware, I find it a really fun listen anyhow. The bonus tracks are fun as well. I only wish the EP didn't cost as much as an album. Of course, that's not a concern if you steal it.
Speaking of ICP, I'm currently reading (among a few other books) Violent J's autobiography "ICP: Behind the Paint."
