Stumping for charitable causes is not usually something I do in public, but I feel that this might be the best way to spread the word on this particular issue..

The Walter Reed Medical Center, a military hospital, has put out a call for phone cards. Their ever-increasing number of Iraq-war-wounded patients can't always get in touch with their families, as the center is hideously underfunded and their long distance is not covered.

Regardless of everyone's varied feelings on the Iraq war, I think most people can agree on the need to take care of those who made deep sacrifices while serving. These phone cards will be used so patients and their families can keep in touch, which can be extra important this time of year.

If you have the means, you can majorly help out wounded soldiers who served in Iraq by sending a prepaid, toll-free-access phone card to:

Medical Family Assistance Center
Walter Reed Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20307-5001

As with any charitable call for help, I recommend you confirm things for yourself. The center's website is, and you can contact the Medical Family Assistance Center during business hours at 202-782-2071 .

Even a $5 card will help. As you can imagine, they need an endless supply.

So, next time you're in a convenience store, gas station, or whatever, think about whether or not you have five bucks and a stamp to spare.

You may have seen the associated press story about the precinct in Cuyahoga county that had less than 1,000 voters, and gave Bush almost 4,000 extra votes.

But that turns out to be only the tip of a very ugly iceberg...

93,136 EXTRA Votes
Found In ONE Ohio County

I'm obliged to mention that the county in question went heavily to Kerry. The iceberg does seem ugly regardless.

Barring something insanely heavy happening, this should be my final Election '04 post. Back to the important stuff, like this.

Just wanted to share this link. For updates from the thick of things, check out photos by my pal Jax0m, who's marking a little time in Taji, Iraq.
