News flash

Rob @ 10:49 PM

This just in: the Senate is suspected of attempting to grow a brain. More on this story as it develops.

To quote The Onion, I'd really like to tell this damn government what I think, but thanks to the Patriot Act, they already know.

Here's an article from the Washington Post (if it asks for a login, BugMeNot is your friend.)

From TFA:

Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) had implored his colleagues to approve the four-year renewal. If terrorists attack the United States next year, he said in a floor speech, "we will have to answer to that if we don't vote to renew the Patriot Act."

The President is throwing out similar tat..

"The terrorists want to attack America again and kill the innocent and inflict even greater damage than they did on September 11th -- and the Congress has a responsibility not to take away this vital tool that law enforcement and intelligence officials have used to protect the American people."

One thing frightens me deeply about this.. I wonder if the Act does get denied, or even delayed, what lengths people like those two will go to in order to prove themselves right. It would seem a perfect opportunity to blow something else up for a big "I told you so."

About a year ago I bought a sewing machine from a friend, and stashed it in my basement.

Friday night I finally set it up, and spent most of Saturday teaching myself how to use it. I'm pretty damn good at it now, if I do say so myself, especially considering the last time I used a sewing machine was about 20 years ago.

I've always been quite handy at sewing, even some heavy-duty clothing modding for costumes and things, but it was always by hand. Now I've gone mechanical I feel like I've just given up being Amish.

I'm running out of things to repair or embroider, though. Next step: find some neat fabric and make something from scratch.

Today, I put the spurs to a really insane "Doctor Who" fic, while keeping up with the newly active Gallifrey. For those unfamiliar, it's a spoofy, shits-and-giggles sort of online RPG in which people start a livejournal as a Dr Who character, and bicker flirt bitch socialize in-character in the community posts and on players' individual journals. It's a ton of fun, and any of you Dr Who fans reading this should definitely check it out, if not to join then to just read the ongoing insanity.

I've been playing since April, and my sock puppet has been Frobisher, a shape-shifting detective who featured in the spinoff comics, novels, and audio plays. He is usually shaped like a penguin, for personal reasons.

In a sweet coup, I've also managed to snag the new Tenth Doctor. Ten will be played pretty manic and unstable until Christmas, when his first full episode comes out and I find out how he really acts on-screen.

Hi, my name is Rob, and I've spent a perfectly serviceable weekend sewing and immersing myself in dodgy scifi fandom. Not only that, but I've blogged it. And you know what? I'm glad! Glad, I say, glad!!!

egg on my space

Rob @ 12:53 AM

I had an account on myspace some time ago, but ditched it as I never got into the thing. Now, however, I have bad music to pimp, so I've decided to start up an artist account for my data-jockeying alter ego.

The power of bad mashups compels you...

Just putting this together has reminded me how much I hate their damn interface.
