Rob @ 5:58 AM

I got home from the show at stupid o'clock in the morning, and crashed for a bit.

I woke up at about 5AM to some weak sunshine coming in through my window, and suddenly remembered that it's trash collection day. Grumbling, I threw on a random pair of shorts and a shirt, and blearily trudged outside to drag the full can out to the sidewalk in front of my house.

It'd been raining off and on, but most of the night's weather was misty and cool without being cold. The ground glistens with morning dew turned up to eleven by a night of fog, the earth soft and wet without being muddy under my bare feet. It felt awesome.

The air is crisp, cool, moist, clean, and refreshing, like really good lettuce. I took a few deep breaths.

The birds in the trees around my house are chirping their morning chirps. I'm a total sucker for wild birdsong, always have been. A few squirrels run their errands along the branches.

The sky is completely overcast as it has been for most of the past week, but the morning Sun was behind it. I'm quite light-sensitive and sunlight is normally not my favorite thing, but at this moment the clouds and the angle all seemed to work to make it bright, but not uncomfortably so. This is no gloomy grey haze, but a shining blanket stretched across the sky. Thanks to the clouds, for once I didn't need sunglasses to enjoy a Summer morning.

When I grumpily forced myself to get up to complete an annoying chore, I wanted nothing more than to get it over with and get back to bed. Once outside surrounded by an unexpectedly perfect moment, I was pretty unsubtly reminded of so many of the reasons why I love the world, so many things I'd lost sight of lately.

I'm grateful. I really did need that.

i love mornings, but i hate waking up that early. if by chance or necessity i'm ever awake for them, i usually decide they're my favorite time of day. :)
