Rob @ 2:20 AM

It's certainly no secret how much of a total mark I am for Halloween. I totally geek out over it, always have. I march in New York City's Village Halloween Parade every year, always browbeating a bunch of my friends into coming with. Said friends have quickly learned of my tendency to keep character to the point of being either hilarious or annoying, depending on whether you ask me or them.

I've always had a passion for costuming and props, and I love to put together my own Halloween gear. I usually end up as a character obscure enough to drastically cut down or even eliminate the chance of someone else wearing the same gear (no small feat in the country's largest public celebration of Halloween) but known enough to be generally recognized and appreciated by the crowd. You can look at my gear from past parades on my profile on a popular costume enthusiast site I hate the name of, and my own full sets of photos from all but the past two years (I stopped bringing a camera) are in my own photo albums.

Some of those costumes were planned far in advance, and some were thrown together within a few days. I'm never sure when I'll decide what I'm going to do next time until I suddenly, more or less randomly, come up with something. When it does happen, it's always a big deal for me.

So far this year, I'd been drawing a complete blank. I hadn't put much thought into anything apart from considering falling back on Harpo Marx again if nothing else presented itself. However, tonight while working on something entirely unrelated, I suddenly had that moment of clarity, that beam of geek-infused light knocking me senseless, that booming voice of inspiration that says this, Mr. Firefly, this is what you must do. The geek points earned would be epic, there would almost surely be no others of your kind present, you can have a hell of a lot of fun playing this character for a night, and it'd even be cheap to assemble if done correctly.

Whether I can actually pull this off will depend heavily on my thrift shop mojo, which I shall start working tomorrow, so I won't say much more about it just yet. If it turns out I can make this idea happen, it shall be epic indeed.

The only hint I'll give at this point: it'd be my first time doing the parade in drag.

More on this story as it develops.

Nineteen Thirty-Three

Rob @ 7:53 PM

Those lovable lunatics at TheDanger are throwing another of their all-night traveling renegade parties tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to it, I could really use a good party.

Kanye West is a twunt

Rob @ 4:03 PM

Late last night I, and the rest of the Internets, got wind of Kanye West being a jerk live on EmptyV.

Late this morning, I awoke with a bad idea. After a quick look around to make sure nobody beat me to it, I threw together a little hastily-edited revenge.

So, so sorry. But not really.

In other my-YouTube-account-based news, you are invited to tag my wall and watch a miniature clone of a popstar fight for a really long time.

blog regeneration

Rob @ 4:24 PM

I've been neglecting this poor blog for far too long.

Not to worry, though. I have five or six posts in the pipeline, I just need to gather the motivation to complete them sometime. I've also got one or two creative endeavors in the pipeline which I shall unveil when the time is right. Things have been a bit nuts here at Firefly Central, but there will be more info forthcoming soon.

To tide you over until then, here's an unethical science experiment. Can you make it through the whole thing?
