I put together a little page for my journalist bit. It’s small but useless, just like the mp3. But, at least I linked the other two clips that inspired me to do that one.

2600 tomorrow! It’ll be a thin meeting thanks to Defcon, but I’ll be giving away a pile of print server cards I trashed.

I accidentally zapped my last entry, so I’ll reiterate: check out this telco ninja. His recent raid of a telephone company facility can be seen here.

Speaking of ninja, I’ve started a contest to find a Japanese name for myself. More info and a place to post suggestions is on Cal’s Forums, here. The winning entry will get a mystery prize from my junk drawer.

My mom just gave me an old “Expectant Motherhood” manual her obstetrician gave her when she was carrying me in 1977. It offers much wisdom to the new mother of the 1970s, such as this gem:

“It seems clear that the newborn of mothers who smoke tend to weigh somewhat less than those of mothers who do not smoke. But whether this lower birth weight indicates an injurious effect has not been established. Regardless of these findings, most physicians recommend that smoking should be eliminated in pregnancy or at least curtailed to ten cigarettes or less a day.”

In other news, I updated my old screengrab today. Yes, I’m still on Windows 98 on this PC. And yes, I’m still using 800×600 resolution. But at least I still have my hacked Start button icon, as per the article I wrote four years ago.

Yeah, I know, Windows 98. Grumble grumble..

I have gotten hold of a very important recording. In it, a news reporter interviews two RIAA-convicted users if mp3 fileshares. Click here for the mp3, and please let me know what you think of it.

Every so often, I’ll find something on the web that I wish to Heaven I’d thought of first.
Something that could totally revolutionize the way people look at the world.
Something that finally puts technology to the use it may have been working toward all its life.
Something pure and good and wonderful.

Something like… this gif.

Gir!

I just updated my bio for the first time in a while. I added a little info regarding my faith I hadn’t thought to post until recently.

Murd0c is my hero! I’ve been looking for this song for years, and he just picks it up out of nowhere for me. It was written about the first President Bush, but it’s eerily appropriate again…

He fought bravely, but sadly Murd0c’s experiment only made it to its 11th hour. He’s a real trooper, though, and has vowed to try it again after some more training.

“Failure is not an option!”

I have a mystery prize put aside for him if he makes it. In the meantime, we have some more time to hype up the event. Don’t call it a comeback!

In other news, I had one of the best phone calls I’ve had in a long time last night, with one of the most amazing people on the planet with whom to talk. I think it lasted around five hours, but it felt like one or two.

Now on to Hollywood. Kathy Griffin, who used to be my main celebrity crush back in the late 90s, looks nothing like herself after her plastic surgery and stuff. It’s always so sad when someone who looks perfectly fine goes and carves themselves up to look like everyone else. Ah, well. I’m about due for a new unattainable celebrity crush anyway. Any ideas?

Here’s a little song translation I banged out this morning. I’ve still got the mp3 up for now, as well. I plan to keep fiddling with the English version until it’s singable. I’m trying to do it justice, as it’s one of my favorite Spanish songs.

Don’t be fooled by the Spanish I throw around, I’m far from bilingual. I can decode it much better than encode it. It’s funny, my coworkers are mostly Latino, and some of them don’t have great English. It’s not uncommon for us to all be having some conversation, them speaking Spanish, me speaking English, and all of us understanding each other perfectly. It must look like Han and Chewie to passersby.

Murd0c’s experiment is plugging away. He is truly brave, and he’s got Cal’s Forums and B3ta rooting for him. Send him some encouraging words, heaven knows he’ll need them..

In the grand tradition of doctors David Hedison, Jack Griffin, and David and Bruce Banner, Murd0c is going to perform an unethical experiment on himself. Beginning at 3pm today, the poor fellow is going to force himself to watch 24 straight hours of MTV.

“Could your eyes get blisters?” – Murd0c

He’ll be keeping a new blog for this experiment, so viddy this, oh my brothers. Here’s hoping he comes out of it with a few neurons intact.

Something happened to me about a week ago that’s still sort of bothering me…

While walking home from work, I felt a tickle on my arm. I looked, and there was a mosquito, in the process of sucking my blood. Rather than kill it, I decided to just watch. The mosquito kept sucking down my lifejuice for a second, then – all of a sudden – it dropped off my arm and fell to the ground, dead.

What do you suppose that’s all about?

Latin music legend Celia Cruz passed away yesterday. I’ve always been a huge fan of hers, and will miss her terribly, in that celebrity/fan sort of way.

¡Azuuucar, mi reina! Usted está con Dios.

One of my favorite songs of hers.
