Antediluvian media!

One last thing before I go. My dear old mother, while doing some of her geneaological researchiculating, came across this link to a Brooklyn newspaper from 1898.

It’s a fun read if you stick with it, the wrting style as well as the look at what was newsworthy in the past are well worth it.

Heading out to TImes Square soon.

Braaaaaains!!!

I had to leave work after only a few hours, because my eye was bugging me. I went to the doctor, and discovered I’ve got pinkeye. Craptastic.

I’ll be home from work tomorrow.. the upside being I’ve got a lot of updating to to on my various sites. Please feel free to say hi to me on AIM (or call me if you’ve got the number) any time tonight, or after 10AM or so tomorrow. I’m not too proud to admit when I could use cheering up.

DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!!!!!

*cough cough*

A stirring can be felt in the mid-Atlantic ocean. A particular spot on the ocean floor..

Where there was previously only a decaying hulk of a long-destroyed research station.

Vibrations. Subsonic, too low to hear, but easy to feel.

With a rumble that stirs up sediment for miles in all directions.. a single pod rises from the muck.

A few sputtering lights can be seen in the portholes, slowly turning on in an uneven sequence.

Slowly.

Surely.

Pod-Six returns.

New Year’s

I’m thinking of doing the Times Square thing for New Year’s.

I went once before, in 1994-95, and I dug it. Since it’s now ten years later, maybe I can start a decennial tradition.

Anyone wanna go with? It’s cheesy overcrowded touristy fun, and you don’t even have to endure the terrible musical acts and that thinly disguised android Dick Clark that thinly disguised android Regis Philbin gibbering on about whatever.

Merry Christmas! (where applicable)

Tom Servo on Santa…

Tom: It’s quiet in the cold of our own little orbit, starless and bible black. And as I look down on the big blue bean we would call home I think it so near, yet… oh, I wish on that star and I hope that in a little snow-covered house with a warm hearth and a loving family, maybe some kid is looking up tonight and wishing upon us. Oh, and how I hope sweet Santa will fly by tonight, because if he does I’m gonna reach right out and hug that big guy. Oh, for the sound of hooves against the steel hull of the ship. Oh, to see the rosy face of Santa in the porthole, offering me a Coke and a smile…
(gradually becoming upset)
…of course, his cheeks WOULD be rosy because it’s a VACUUM out there! I mean, Santa’s HEART would explode!
(becoming hysterical)
But HE wouldn’t feel it because the capillaries in his brain would pop like little firecrackers
(Joel tries to calm him down)
due to the blood boiling away in his face like pudding in a copper…OH THE HUMANITY!!
(Now both Joel and Crow are trying to calm him down.)
And his jolly old belly would start bubbling like a roasted marshmallow, eyes bulging and popping out… AND THE REINDEER–OH THE REINDEER!!!–keep floating like holiday floats and in turn exploding in a hail of blood and entrails! Prancer–BOOM! Dancer–BOOM!
Joel: HEY!
Crow: Tom!
Joel: Tom, take it easy! Santa’s gonna be okay, buddy.
Tom: You sure?
Joel: Yeah, give him a little credit, okay?
Tom: Phew, what a relief!

Playing out

I found out this morning that a friend of the family passed on. Yet another smoker is lost to lung cancer.

I didn’t know her very well, but my mom grew up with her. I’ll accompany mom to the funeral home tomorrow evening, shortly after getting home from the holiday party at work.

In other news, as much as I love Winter, the associated holidays are always guaranteed to bring some sort of huge upset or drama to the surface, usually family-related. Had a big one play out over the past couple of nights, which is now out of my hands. The newest one is just beginning tonight.

And I’m still trying to wrestle a cranky PostNuke install into submission, teaching myself CSS along the way. I publicly set myself a deadline of the 26th to go live, we’ll see how that works out…
