Interesting Goddess quiz swiped from Auntie Krizu

Neit
Indeed, you are 91% erudite, 100% sensual, 66% martial, and 70% saturnine.
Neit, who was said to have emerged from the primeval water to create the world, is one of the oldest Egyptian
Goddesses. Although the Egyptians believed that Neit was of both a
masculine and feminine nature, as she was self-produced, she was
usually depicted as a woman.

The Egyptians believed her to be an ancient and wise Goddess, to
whom the other Gods came if they could not resolve their own disputes.
Besides being the ruler of the lower Heavens, she was also the patron
to hunt and warfare, domestic arts, mysticism, as well as women and
marriage. All this makes her some kind of a “jane-of-all-trades.”

As a deity, Neit is often shown carrying a bow and arrows,
linking her to hunting and warfare, other times she is shown with a
sceptre, symbol of rule and power, and the ankh, symbol of life.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

If there is at least one person in your life whom you consider a close friend, whom you would not have met without the Internet, post this sentence in your journal.

For me this is true many, many times over. If you’re reading this I’m probably talking about you. Thank you for everything!

Which reminds me… It’s been about ten years since I had my first personal Internet-access accounts. They were the free trials of AOL and Compuserve that came with the first (and last) new PC I ever bought myself.. an IBM Aptiva with a 100mHz Pentium, eight high-flying megs of RAM, and a whopping gigabyte of hard drive space.

Coming as I was directly from a couple of cranky 286 and 386 boxes dialing up to BBSes, playing with the rudimentary Internet access functions of some of the insanely high-test ones, and gingerly fooling around on the old Sprintnet and Tymnet now and then, I was in utter heaven on that Aptiva. I remember wondering how I’d ever use up all that room. “OMG, it’s a thousand megs!!!”

I still have a soft spot for that old thing, even though it’s in pieces now. My current machine contains one of the Aptiva’s old case screws, and in a spare drive bay sits the 5-1/4″ floppy drive from the old 286.

Hi, my name is Rob, and I’m a sentimental old nerd.

More IR

Enamon, Fina, and I took a walk around today, and played with my infrared-modded cam in the daylight, where it works much better. I’ve uploaded the resulting pics to my infrared flickr set.

Here are some samples…

Fina and Enamon, both of whom are dressed in dark clothes.

Bright trees and dark sky.

Me, dressed in a maroon shirt and black vest.

Coca cola is all but transparent to IR.

Many nerds are familiar with these instructions for converting a common webcam into one which uses infrared rather than visible light.

I carried out this hack on a cheap digital camera. Now I have an ass-kicking IR cam!

Check out my first batch of IR photos, and drop me some comments while you’re there!

David Tennant is the next Dr Who!

Speaking of which, Who Is Doctor Who is a fictional website run by the BBC. This website was introduced in the first episode of the new Dr Who series as the project of a conspiracy nut who notices the Doctor’s appearances in photographs and images throughout history. (Their photoshop jobs are pretty crap, though. Glad the rest of the show’s effects surpass!)

The site continues, and “issues” of the site are released tying into whatever happened in the most recenbtly aired episode. “Sightings” are submitted by fans who would like to play along. I had to get in on this action, so in the bottom link of the issue pertaining to the first epsiode (alien menace: living plastic creatures) you can find my reference to my other loves of prank calls and my new mobile phone.

I brag!
