Wheee!
About a year ago I bought a sewing machine from a friend, and stashed it in my basement.
Friday night I finally set it up, and spent most of Saturday teaching myself how to use it. I’m pretty damn good at it now, if I do say so myself, especially considering the last time I used a sewing machine was about 20 years ago.
I’ve always been quite handy at sewing, even some heavy-duty clothing modding for costumes and things, but it was always by hand. Now I’ve gone mechanical I feel like I’ve just given up being Amish.
I’m running out of things to repair or embroider, though. Next step: find some neat fabric and make something from scratch.
Today, I put the spurs to a really insane “Doctor Who” fic, while keeping up with the newly active Gallifrey. For those unfamiliar, it’s a spoofy, shits-and-giggles sort of online RPG in which people start a livejournal as a Dr Who character, and bicker flirt bitch socialize in-character in the community posts and on players’ individual journals. It’s a ton of fun, and any of you Dr Who fans reading this should definitely check it out, if not to join then to just read the ongoing insanity.
I’ve been playing since April, and my sock puppet has been Frobisher, a shape-shifting detective who featured in the spinoff comics, novels, and audio plays. He is usually shaped like a penguin, for personal reasons.
In a sweet coup, I’ve also managed to snag the new Tenth Doctor. Ten will be played pretty manic and unstable until Christmas, when his first full episode comes out and I find out how he really acts on-screen.
Hi, my name is Rob, and I’ve spent a perfectly serviceable weekend sewing and immersing myself in dodgy scifi fandom. Not only that, but I’ve blogged it. And you know what? I’m glad! Glad, I say, glad!!!
