Princess Telephone
1959
The brainchild of noted industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss, the Princess Telephone was an early attempt by AT&T and Western Electric to explore new designs.
Featuring a light body and a nightlight in the dial, the Princess Telephone was primarily marketed as a secondary household phone, and toward women. The original range lacked its own ringer apparatus; users were expected to have a main ringable phone elsewhere in the home.
The Princess Telephone range survived many design refinements and reiterations well into the 1990s.
